The First Day

Where are you going to be on the first day of your brand new business? If you are like a lot of entrepreneurs, you are going to be pacing back and forth, feeling a lot of nervousness, anxiety and plain old fear that you are going to feel weak for even having. You are also going to be feeling a competing emotion of bravado, which tends to accompany intentionally making any major change in your life. There is just something “Dirty Harry” about marching into your boss’s office, setting your letter of resignation on his desk, and then going off to make a lot of plans during your last two weeks of working for “the man.”

The first day of your new business may not seem like a big deal. Since a lot of entrepreneurs take up freelancing on their idea of choice long before they take the proverbial plunge into full on entrepreneurship, they generally have several repeat clients and a fairly well established lead generation method which is already putting a decent income into their pockets. While the person who is successful with their initial idea may be the exception rather than the rule, most entrepreneurs have some experience. But on the first day of it being for real, some jitters are going to be inevitable.

Keep in mind that the past few years notwithstanding, it is generally not that difficult to get another job if your business completely fails. And no matter how badly your first project may end up crashing and burning, you can always create something new down the line. Just keep in mind on the first day that there are going to be plenty of others, no matter what.
